Immediately after winning the championship, Bret Hart thanked the fans and announced that he couldn't accept the SGW United States Championship because his eyes were set on the SGW World Heavyweight Championship. He vacated the championship. SGW owner Arn Anderson immediately booked an impromptu match between Steve Corino (Kfir Hezroni), Lance Storm (Patrick Quinlan), and The Rock (John Baron) to crown the new champion.

Controversy surrounding the violence televised during the formation of The Apokolips led the network to put SGW Shock on hiatus before ultimately deciding to cancel the program, effectively causing SGW to cease operation for a number of years. The Undertaker was consequently stripped of the SGW United States Championship and it was declared vacant.

Randy Orton (Craig Chalmers) assaulted Hassan backstage, injuring him in the process. With Hassan requiring months off due to surgery, it was decided to strip him of the championship and award it to the winner of the World Warrior tournament.
