Jeff Jarrett won the first-ever Gauntlet for the Gold main event at WrestleBrawl, last eliminating Rob Van Dam (Rob Boyle) to become a two-time SGW World Heavyweight Champion.

Only 7 days removed from WrestleBrawl, Raven defeated Jeff Jarrett and Rob Van Dam (Rob Boyle) in a triple threat match to become the new SGW World Heavyweight Champion after interference from The Undertaker, Mankind, and Vader, forming the stable The Apokolips.

Controversy surrounding the violence televised during the formation of The Apokolips led the network to put SGW Shock on hiatus before ultimately deciding to cancel the program, effectively causing SGW to cease operation for a number of years. Raven was consequently stripped of the SGW World Championship and it was declared vacant for the third time during its lineage.

On 09 / 24 / 2005, Val Venis (Brett Albers), while under contract to League of Champions, broke into the SGW archives and stole the physical SGW World Heavyweight and New Era Wrestling World Heavyweight Championship belts. He proclaimed himself champion of both dormant companies, though neither company recognizes this officially.

"The Six-String Samurai" Jeff Jarrett, the only other representative of both companies on the League of Champions roster, challenged Venis to a ladder match for both vacant championships, the winner of which would be recognized officially as the final champion in the record books.
